AI systems that affect work design, supervision, or performance therefore fall squarely within an employer’s duty of care.

To manage AI responsibly, organizations should adopt the following principles:

AI should support decision-making—not replace it. Final decisions that affect people must always involve human judgment.

2. Transparency

Employees should know when AI is being used, what it is used for, and how it affects them.

3. Fairness and Bias Control

Data inputs and outcomes should be reviewed regularly to identify and correct bias.

4. Privacy and Dignity

AI monitoring must respect personal privacy and psychological wellbeing. Just because technology can monitor does not mean it should.

5. Accountability

Clear responsibility must exist for AI-related decisions, errors, and impacts.
